Job summary

A regional ambulance service provider in Worcester is seeking Vehicle Preparation Operatives to prepare emergency vehicles for service. Responsibilities include ensuring vehicles are stocked, cleaned, and ready for daily operations, as well as assisting in minor repairs and inspections. Candidates should have at least 3 GCSEs and a full UK driving licence with category C1 entitlement. Flexible shifts required, including nights and weekends. A commitment to health and safety and effective communication is essential.

Vehicle Preparation Operative – Worcester Hub

West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust is looking to build a reserve pool of Vehicle Preparation Operatives to join our well established team for any vacancies that may arise over the coming 12 months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare emergency vehicles, ambulances and cars to be ready for service (cleaning, stocking, maintenance).
  • Ensure vehicles are correctly stocked, cleaned and ready to meet daily operational requirements.
  • Work various shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends and bank holidays; initial posting may be night‑only.
  • Assist Fleet Services with vehicle inspection and minor repairs.
  • Coordinate deep‑cleaning programmes with the vehicle servicing schedule.
  • Respond to operational requests for movement of vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain an adequately stocked buffer store and participate in reporting accidents, injuries, loss or damage, and hazardous equipment.
  • Uphold Health and Safety and HSE requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and minimise conflict.
  • Contribute to training, appraisal and development programmes as required.
  • Attend meetings, conferences and major incidents when requested.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Good standard of general education: minimum 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above, including English and Maths; or willing to undertake a level‑2 qualification within 12 months of the role.
  • Experience of stock‑taking and driving a variety of vehicles.
  • Full UK driving licence including category C1 entitlement.
  • Willingness to undergo any training required by the Trust.
  • Must be able to work in the UK without the need for sponsorship.
  • Ready to submit Disclosure & Barring Service check; applicants cover the cost of the basic check (£27.76).
Other Requirements

Applicants must have right to work in the UK. The post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a DBS check.

Salary: £24,465 to £26,598 a year plus relevant unsocial hours as per section 2.
