Job description
Vacuum Excavator Driver/Operator

We are looking for a skilled and safety‑conscious Vacuum Excavator Driver/Operator to join our team. In this role you will operate vacuum excavation equipment to safely expose underground utilities, supporting our repair and maintenance activities across a range of sites in London & the surrounding area. This is a standalone role that involves driving vacuum trucks to and from sites, operating the equipment, maintaining machinery, and ensuring all work is carried out in line with safety regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely and efficiently operate vacuum excavation trucks and related equipment.
  • Drive to and from job sites in line with road and transport regulations.
  • Read and interpret site drawings, plans, and utility markings.
  • Ensure underground utilities are protected during excavation works.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and pre/post‑trip equipment inspections.
  • Complete required documentation, including job reports and safety checklists.
  • Communicate clearly with site supervisors, ground crews, and clients.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines at all times.
  • Assist with site setup and cleanup where required.
Requirements

We value people who enjoy getting things done with a focus on customer service and quality. Candidates should have:

  • Prior experience as an HGV and vacuum excavator driver/operator.
  • A full HGV Class 2 licence (Category C).
  • A suction excavator CPCS qualification and/or EUSR qualification – highly beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial driving regulations and safety standards.
  • Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor vehicle issues while on the road.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and operate in a physically demanding environment.
