Job summary
We can offer 2 x 0.6wte fixed term contracts for an innovation in Liverpool supporting health visitors service to deliver immunisations to a targeted population of 0-5-year-olds.
The successful applicants will be dynamic, highly motivated individuals, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously and as a member of the health visiting team. As a vaccination nurse you will be working as part of pro‑active skill mix team who are committed to delivering high quality services to children, young people and their families. Travelling in your own vehicle across the Mersey care footprint.
Applicants must demonstrate an in‑depth knowledge and understanding of public health with regard to vaccination & immunisation principles of the national childhood programmes, with a commitment to reducing health inequalities.
Responsibilities
- Support the national 0‑5 childhood immunisation programme and at times respond to disease outbreaks.
- Identify children 0‑5 years who have missed their routine immunisations and target them for joint home visits with the health visitor and vaccination nurse to promote uptake of childhood immunisations.
- Deliver out of schedule vaccinations in accordance with the Green Book following the latest information on vaccines and vaccination procedures to ensure children are protected against vaccine‑preventable diseases.
- Maintain clinical standards ensuring hand hygiene is performed before and after every client contact, that vaccination takes place in a safe environment, equipment/emergency drugs are in‑date and accessible, reporting any concerns to the Caseload Holder/Team Leader.
- Co‑ordinate delivery of vaccines and equipment to community clinics from the Medicines Management Distribution Centre.
- Adhere to policy and practice to ensure safe storage, handling, preparation and administration of vaccines and medication.
- Be accountable for ensuring cold chain maintenance during the transport of vaccines and for any fridges or cold chain porters used for transportation.
- Act as a resource increasing the pool of knowledge around immunisation.
Qualifications
- Registered Health Care Professional.
- Evidence of continuing professional development in relation to clinical practice, competencies, including consent and emergency anaphylaxis and basic life support management.
- Knowledge and understanding of public health with regard to vaccination and immunisation principles and the national immunisation programmes.
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedure to protect children and adults and the issues and implications for practice.
- Understanding and experience of working to the professional code of conduct.
- Experience of working in a multi‑disciplinary team.
- Evidence of continuing clinical experience working within a community setting.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
