Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Urgent Care Service Fife. As an Urgent Care Practitioner (or trainee under Annex 21) you will be a first level Registered General Nurse with current UK NMC registration and substantial post-registration experience, providing a high quality, safe, patient-centred and effective clinical nursing service in the out-of-hours period to the population of Fife and Kinross.

We have centres at Queen Margaret Hospital, Victoria Hospital and St Andrews Community Hospital. We currently have a vacancy for an experienced, flexible nurse to join our existing nursing team.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver a high quality, safe, patient-centred and effective nursing service in the out-of-hours period.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, clinical assessment and critical decision-making abilities.
  • Work autonomously and as part of a team within the NMC Code at all times.
  • Support personal development planning, reflective practice, training and mentorship.
  • Work across a range of shift patterns, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
Qualifications and Experience
  • First level Registered General Nurse with current UK NMC registration.
  • Substantial post-registration experience; ideal background includes Primary Care, Accident & Emergency, Acute Medical/Surgical, or telephone triage.
  • Trainee (Annex 21) candidates start on band 5 and must complete the Annex 21 competency framework to progress to band 6; those meeting band 6 requirements may progress without completing the framework.
  • Evidence of legal right to work in the UK (and related recruitment checks).
  • Esteems the PVG requirement if the role is assessed as regulated.
Salary and Employment Details
  • Salary is pro rata to part-time hours for part-time posts.
  • Hours will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours per week from 1 April 2026, with pro-rata adjustments for part-time work; hourly rates will increase correspondingly so pay is not affected.
  • Agenda for Change responsibilities and pay reflect current arrangements; flexible working and family-friendly policies are offered; reasonable adjustments are available for disabled candidates and those with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent.
