Underwriter - Professions, US

Department: Professions

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: London

Reporting To: Antony Aylett

Description

Thanks to continued significant organic growth, we have an exciting opportunity to join one of the most established Professional Liability teams in London. After winning the ‘All Stars’ award at the inaugural CFC impact awards, the team consistently exceeds expectations to deliver exceptional service and results. They are looking for a high performer to join CFC as they build the underwriting team of the future.

The team are a market leader in providing professional liability solutions for SME businesses, as well as a developing book of middle market and larger accounts. As a team of 21, they insure over 13,500 clients, and consider over 50,000 submissions a year.

As one of the largest professional liability teams in London, focusing on protecting US-based clients, this is a great opportunity to be exposed to a wide variety of risks. While professional liability is a core component of coverage, the team's innovative package policies include general liability, cyber, and property insurance on one policy form, providing valuable experience. They offer six unique products for a range of professional service firms, from engineers to contractors to miscellaneous professional firms in both traditional and emerging sectors. The opportunities to learn and develop are extensive.

About the role

As an underwriter on the US Professions team, you will handle key aspects of the underwriting process, including new business and renewal underwriting, responding to broker queries, managing portfolios, and developing broker relationships.

Training and support will be provided by experienced team members to help you understand the products, appetite, and broker base. From day one, you will be underwriting and engaging with brokers.

  • Underwrite new business and renewals
  • Respond to and manage broker inquiries promptly and professionally, producing quotations within SLAs
  • Proactively seek new business opportunities and build strong broker relationships (face-to-face and over the phone)
  • Contribute to team and group initiatives
  • Deliver presentations on CFC products, trends, and exposures

About you

We seek a driven individual who strives for high performance, enjoys teamwork, and is eager to develop skills and mentor others. You should have at least 3 years of underwriting or broking experience in professional liability (E&O), preferably with multi-class exposure. Experience with US business insurance is advantageous but not essential; a keen interest in this market is sufficient.

You should have a sales-oriented mindset, problem-solving skills, strong numerical ability, and attention to detail. A strong work ethic and excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential. The ideal candidate is ambitious, eager to join a high-performance team, and interested in shaping the future of underwriting.
