Job description

Applications are invited for the post of Fellow in Clinical Simulation and Anaesthetics at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. The Royal Cornwall Hospital is a large district hospital, affiliated to the Peninsula Medical School, which provides acute medical and surgical services to a population of around 400,000.

This exciting opportunity would suit a trainee with a background in anaesthesia and an interest in clinical simulation and education. The post is supported by the Division of Anaesthesia and Theatres and requires the applicant to have completed RCOA Basic Level Training in anaesthesia and hold their Primary FRCA qualification.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to assist in the further development of our Trust-wide simulation programme. The Trust has invested heavily in the development of a Simulation Suite and Clinical Skills laboratory over the last ten years. Simulation-based clinical training has since become embedded into medical education across many divisions.

The role includes regular delivery of simulation training sessions, both in the Simulation Suite and across multiple hospital sites and specialities. There would also be a significant component of the post devoted to the expansion of the Trust clinical simulation facility. Time would be set‑aside for the post-holder to undertake audit and or research in the field of clinical simulation under supervision of the Trust simulation lead.

Funding will be available for a related PGCE.

In addition to simulation, the successful candidate would partake in the senior anaesthetic or obstetric trainee on‑call rota, alongside ST‑level anaesthetic trainees. The Registrar rota comprises supervision of more junior anaesthetic trainees, cover of the Intensive Care Unit and support for the resident obstetric anaesthetic trainee as required. In addition, the post-holder would be expected to deliver approximately one to two sessions of elective clinical anaesthesia each week.

Applications are welcomed from those who wish to work full‑time or those wishing to job‑share.
