Trigger Response / Resuscitation Officer

The Trigger Response team are an experienced group of acutely trained nurses and allied health professionals that provide both outreach provision and resuscitation training. As an outreach team, the Trigger Response proactively reviews, investigates and treats deteriorating patients across the entire hospital demographic. They work independently and autonomously to ensure that patients have up-to-date and appropriate plans of care, aiming to reverse acute deterioration and prevent unnecessary critical care admissions.

They abide by the National Outreach Forum operational standards and provide all levels of life support training in accordance with the Resuscitation Council UK, including BLS (Paeds & Adults), ILS (Paeds & Adults), ALS, EPALS and NLS, as well as other specific training related to patient assessment and emergency presentations.

Main Duties
  • Support the safe delivery of clinical practice and guidance to wards and departments regarding deteriorating patients, implementing best practice under supervision.
  • Carry continuing responsibility for a highly specialist service, including development of trust-wide clinical practice, planning, organisation and coordination of internal and external training programmes and education, consultation and information resources, research, and leadership of clinical audit relating to resuscitation and care of the deteriorating patient.
  • Provide clinical assessment and intervention to avert admissions to critical care, share skills with ward areas and support staff to reduce hospital length of stay, improving patient care and safety.
  • Attend deteriorating patients, cardiac arrest and trauma calls, functioning as a member of the team as necessary and leading when required.
  • Maintain a professional profile and develop skills, knowledge and competencies in accordance with the specific professional Code of Conduct, Trust Policies and Procedures.
  • Obtain and maintain Resuscitation Council UK instructor status and follow the guidelines set out by the Resuscitation Council UK.
