Overview

The Trauma and Orthopaedic team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our established trauma and orthopaedic team at Withybush Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with experience working within Trauma and Orthopaedics at band 6 level or above. The role includes leading and developing trauma pathways, supporting safe and effective management from admission to discharge, and contributing to quality improvement projects to sustain NHFD compliance.

The applicant should understand the South Wales Major Trauma Network and current trauma service pathways across South Wales.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure safe, high-standard nursing care on the Trauma ward after surgery.
  • Monitor inpatients daily and liaise with the medical team to ensure progression as planned.
  • Coordinate urgent trauma surgery with the Trauma Coordinator and Operating Theatre staff, considering list status, equipment, and timing.
  • Facilitate a culture that meets the specialist needs of trauma patients while supporting performance targets (e.g., reduced length of stay).
  • Coordinate patient pathways with relevant services to ensure timely, appropriate and safe care.
  • Expedite clinical intervention for trauma patients and achieve NHFD clinical standards.
  • Provide education and training to staff in trauma settings, including nursing teams, students, therapy teams, and community services as required.
