Job Purpose

The Transport Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the vehicle fleet supporting field and infrastructure operations within the telecommunications sector. This role ensures that all transport activities meet regulatory, operational, and project delivery requirements, including the management of the Operator’s Licence, vehicle maintenance schedules, and driver compliance. The Transport Manager supports engineering and installation teams by ensuring that vehicles, trailers, and mobile plant are readily available, roadworthy, and fit for purpose, playing a critical role in delivering high-quality telecom services and maintaining customer satisfaction. This position also contributes to enhancing safety, minimising operational risk, and promoting a culture of excellence across transport operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Management and responsibility of MJQ Goods Vehicle Operators Licence within a specific area
  • Responsibility for the MJQ Fleet operations within nominated areas and act as the main contact
  • Responsibility for all road going vehicles and Plant within nominated area
  • Audit and report on the Fleet compliance of sub-contractors working for MJQ
  • To be fundamental in developing MJQ’s working culture, its reputation and values
  • Responsibility for the management of the Goods Vehicle Operators licence for a nominated area [s], a certain amount of travelling will be expected.
  • Control of the authorised operating centres assuring that only authorised operating centres are used, any conditions adhered to and that the authorised vehicle numbers are not exceeded
  • Ensure drivers’ hours are adhered to and adequate records are kept for the legally prescribed period
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained to the requirements of the Operator’s licence including, PMI inspections, driver pre-use checks and defect rectification.
  • Ensure drivers have the appropriate licence and qualifications to operate the allocated vehicle
  • Carry out driver training and assessments where required to help ensure MJQ vehicles are operated safely and legally.
  • Carry out Fleet operation duties, such as control of fuel cards, vehicle damage checks and vehicle issues
  • Carry out incident and investigations as and when required
  • Carry out vehicle roadworthiness checks as and when required
  • Advise on vehicle numbers and assist in reducing those numbers where vehicles are not required
  • Responsibility for the MJQ fleet operation within a specific area, assisting the MJQ fleet office, this includes management of HGV’s, Vans and Plant/cable trailers
  • Installation and deinstallation of telematics and camera
  • Act as MJQ Fleet department regional contact
