A prominent healthcare provider in Luton seeks a Transformation Project Midwife to lead maternity transformation initiatives. This pivotal role involves planning, coordinating, and delivering projects that align with national priorities while ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. As a key figure working closely with staff and stakeholders, the Midwife will utilize strong leadership and data analysis skills to drive service improvements and enhance maternity care experiences. The Transformation Project Midwife will play a key role in supporting the planning, development, coordination, and delivery of maternity transformation programmes in partnership with the Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS). These programmes will align with the overarching objectives of the National Maternity Transformation Programme (The Three-Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Service) and will also respond to national and local priorities, including:
Working under the leadership of the Consultant Midwife, the post holder will provide expert midwifery input to support service improvement initiatives and transformation activities. They will demonstrate strong leadership, change management, negotiation, and communication skills to help overcome barriers to progress and support the delivery of high quality, safe, and personalised maternity care.
This role also has identified hours working with the LMNS with the direction of the ICB Chief Midwife. We are seeking a Transformation Midwife to lead and drive maternity service improvement projects across the Trust. This role combines clinical expertise with programme leadership to deliver change that aligns with national and local priorities. You will plan, coordinate, and monitor transformation initiatives, manage risks, and ensure projects stay on track.
You will provide visible clinical leadership, supporting quality improvement, audits, incident reviews, and embedding learning into practice. Using maternity data, you will track progress, identify variation, and inform service priorities.
Collaboration is key: you will work closely with staff, service users, LMNS leads, and external partners to co‑produce initiatives, share best practice, and promote inclusive, system‑wide working.
You will champion innovation, continuous improvement, and workforce development, supporting colleagues to apply transformation tools and improve services.
The role also includes providing clinical support as needed, ensuring safe, patient‑centred care, and reporting progress, risks, and outcomes to governance groups and LMNS boards.

Lead the planning, delivery, and monitoring of maternity transformation projects, ensuring alignment with national and local priorities. Act as a link between LMNS workstreams, ICB teams, and sub‑groups, providing coordination, reports, and business case support. Identify risks and implement mitigation plans to maintain project momentum.
Provide expert clinical leadership, ensuring improvement initiatives are evidence‑based and aligned with policy. Lead action plans following audits, reviews, and inspections, embedding learning into practice. Support staff in maintaining high standards of patient care and professional practice.
Analyse local and national maternity data to track progress, identify variation, and inform priorities. Ensure accurate reporting for transformation metrics and governance.
Collaborate with staff, service users, and external partners to co‑produce initiatives and facilitate shared learning. Promote system‑wide engagement and inclusion.
Champion innovation, continuous improvement, and inclusive leadership. Support staff in applying transformation tools and improving service delivery.
Prepare updates, dashboards, and presentations for LMNS boards and governance groups. Report progress, risks, and outcomes, ensuring timely escalation.
Provide high‑quality midwifery care and support colleagues when needed, promoting safe, patient‑centred practice.
