Diabetic eye screening is a test to check for eye problems caused by diabetes. Some people with diabetes develop diabetic retinopathy, which can lead to sight loss if not treated properly. The screening test can find eye problems before sight is affected. Pictures are taken of the back of the eyes to check for any changes.

Location: Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire

Salary: £23,809.50 rising upon completion of your diploma

Key duties of a Screener
  • Ensure patients feel welcome and comfortable throughout the screening process
  • Undertake the screening checklist to ensure a safe screening environment
  • Maintain the camera and equipment to enable the best possible images
  • Safely administer eye drops to enlarge pupils and undertake photographs with correct field of view
  • Identify patients requiring urgent onward referral at the time of screening
  • Maintain a sufficient stock of consumables to run the clinic
