Job description
Overview

We are looking to recruit a qualified Train Driver at Helensburg. The right candidate will be someone who strives to deliver excellent customer service, can communicate effectively over a variety of formats, holds a positive attitude to safety and has a proven record of demonstrating flexibility at work.

Responsibilities
  • Operate locomotives, both light engines and freight trains with safety at the forefront of all actions, utilising risk triggered commentary as a rule.
  • Comply with all rules and instructions, undergoing proficiency assessments to maintain competence.
  • Complete route and traction training, maintaining competence as required.
  • Locate and, where possible, rectify faults by following the correct reporting procedures.
  • Represent the company to our customers, maintaining a professional outlook in both behaviour and appearance.
  • Read and fully understand all notices and amendments affecting the locomotive, train or route the Train Manager is working.
  • Communicate issues pro‑actively and effectively with GB Railfreight controllers, line managers, signallers and customer representatives.
  • Ensure safety of one's self and all others working in and around the Railway by remaining focused, vigilant and taking the correct measures to prepare for duty.
Skills and Experience
Essential
  • European Train Driving License holder.
  • Clean safety record.
  • Freight Train Driver Competence.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of rail industry rules and regulations.
  • A full, manual UK drivers licence.
  • Must live within 45 minutes commute of the depot.
Desirable
  • Comfortable using iPad and digital technologies.
  • Mentor experience.
  • Freight Train experience, especially class 66 locomotive competence.
  • Varied route knowledge.
  • Rail Operator competence.
