Our client is a precision manufacturing business, based in Birmingham, specialising in machining and assembly of high value low volume components. The Tooling Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for ordering, maintaining, and optimizing all tooling and work‑holding. This hands‑on role ensures efficient machine tool operation by supporting production with technical expertise and problem‑solving. The engineer will regularly visit the production area and focus on improving tooling set‑ups and processes to minimise machine downtime.

Job Description
  • Optimize tooling and work‑holding processes to support production requirements.
  • Manage and maintain machine tools, tooling, and work‑holding equipment.
  • Prepare and supply all tooling and fixtures needed for production.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to design work‑holding for production and NPI.
  • Work with suppliers to maintain tooling stock, control budgets, and source new tooling for process improvement.
  • Improve CNC tooling and work‑holding to reduce downtime and increase productivity.
  • Identify and phase out obsolete tooling while meeting production needs.
  • Drive manufacturing improvements and cost‑reductions using lean methods.
  • Support NPI prototypes and enhancements to existing processes.
  • Provide technical expertise for new and existing product lines.
  • Assist with training and development on the Zoller pre‑setter.
  • Support the CNC engineering team across all machining‑related activities.
  • Maintain strong communication with internal and external customers.
Essential Qualifications / Experience / Skills
  • Holds a relevant qualification – Apprenticeship, NVQ, HNC etc.
  • Previous practical working experience of CNC machine tools (Lathe, Milling, Mill‑Turn).
  • SolidWorks and SolidCAM experience.
  • CNC setting experience.
  • Must be highly competent in analysing and resolving issues.
  • Due to the nature of the work, all candidates must be eligible for SC Clearance.
