Job description

Therapeutic Radiographer Apprenticeship – University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust, closing date 30 January 2026.

About the role

This apprenticeship provides hands‑on experience while you study Level 6 Therapeutic Radiography at Sheffield Hallam University. You will work full time under the supervision of registered operators, gaining knowledge of patient care, pre‑treatment planning, radiation delivery and quality assurance. A minimum of 20 % protected time (1 day) is allocated for university attendance and distance learning.

Main duties
  • Coordinate patient planning and delivery of ionising radiation following evidence‑based protocols within agreed scope of practice.
  • Manage daily workload to optimise throughput and respond to machine breakdowns or unexpected events.
  • Participate in service improvement projects and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Assist with clinical and administrative tasks, including filing, distribution of mail and booking appointments.
  • Update the Aria data system with relevant patient data.
  • Act as chaperone and escort for patients within the hospital.

Training & qualifications
  • 112 UCAS points from 3 A levels (at least 40 points from Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics) or equivalent BTEC.
  • Access to HE Diploma in health studies, health science or nursing (15 level 3 credits at distinction, 12 of which from science units).
  • Previous degree or evidence of science in academic profile.
  • Minimum six months experience in health and social care.

  • Experience dealing with the general public.
  • Knowledge of oncology/cancer treatments.
  • Basic understanding of anatomical sites.
  • Recent experience in a radiotherapy department.
