Shift Leader pay: from £14.76 per hour, increasing to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may apply depending on location.
New colleagues joining Tesco are offered a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week. If you would prefer fewer hours, there are opportunities to work a minimum of 12 hours per week as well.
The availability windows are used to schedule contracted hours with 3 weeks’ notice of shifts. We aim to support flexibility, so if your available times closely match but do not exactly align with the advertised times, we would still love to hear from you.

Customer focus is central to the role. A Shift Leader helps run the store from the shop floor, supports colleagues, and ensures smooth store operations to benefit customers, colleagues and communities every day.
Role summary
- Work in a fast-paced retail environment with variety.
- Own the duty shifts, coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well-stocked store that meets customer expectations.
- Be available for customers, listening to their needs and helping them leave with what they came for.
- Identify ways to improve service, including coaching colleagues and giving feedback to the team.
- Guide and support colleagues in-store to maintain a safe place to work and shop.
- Maintain understanding of store performance and assist managers in actions to improve operations.
- Lead from the front and set a positive example for colleagues.

You will be responsible for
- Coordinating the store team to deliver an easy, fuss-free shopping experience for customers.
- Supporting colleagues to deliver daily priorities and take regular breaks.
- Opening and closing the store, completing duty cover, and ensuring safety for everyone.
- Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of a manager for day-to-day queries.
- Maintaining a clean, tidy, well-presented store.
- Supporting managers with seasonal, community, and charity events.
- Contributing to a positive, inclusive team atmosphere.
- Providing great customer service by listening to customers and putting them first.
- Keeping the team informed on communications, changes, or updates.
- Staying knowledgeable about store performance and seeking ways to improve operations.
- Coordinating store improvements and removing obstacles to service.
- Following health and safety routines, and ensuring colleagues do the same.
- Recognising and celebrating colleagues for great service.
