Equans Embedded Generation operates multiple customer sites with large-scale embedded energy capacity across the UK, providing specialist management of onsite generation for industrial processes and the ability to export to the Grid. We combine multiple technologies to meet our customers' specific needs, offering design, build, operate, and maintenance services. Our expertise can help industrial businesses achieve their carbon reduction goals.

We are experts in technologies such as combined heat and power (CHP), biomass, and energy from waste. By locating generation on customers' sites, we provide industry-leading safety management, reduced energy costs and carbon footprint, and assured energy security for operational needs.

General Overview:

The Technical Services Manager (TSM) reports to the Operations Manager. They will manage the on-site maintenance team (up to 6 technicians) and act as a deputy for the Operations Manager during absence or work away from the site.

The TSM is responsible for managing all maintenance activities—reactive and planned—on all plant items within the Generating Station, including steam boilers, water treatment plant, gas-fired CHP engines, medical air compressors, chilled water systems, standby generators, and ancillary equipment.

The TSM ensures plant compliance with statutory requirements, industry best practices, and health, safety, and environmental standards through comprehensive CAFM system management. They support the operations manager to keep LGSC audit-ready.

Key Activities:

  • Maintain the plant to ensure safety, environmental standards, and statutory compliance (BG01/BG04, HTMs, SFG20).
  • Ensure routine duties, plant performance, availability, and reliability are maintained.
  • Manage legislative maintenance activities, including PSSR inspections, functional safety tests, Legionella management, and statutory routines.
  • Apply correct safe systems of work.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise maintenance using CAFM.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of maintenance technicians.
  • Lead maintenance, project work, and outage activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities in electronic systems.
  • Support documentation and procedure development.
  • Manage safety escalation and emergency response plans.
  • Liaise with internal and external customers.
  • Procure spares and consumables within budget.
  • Display behaviors aligned with Equans' standards.
  • Role metrics include H&S, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
  • Line manager for 5-6 technicians and site administrator.
  • Qualifications: minimum HNC or equivalent in engineering; experience with industrial steam boilers (BOAS desirable); safety certifications (NEBOSH, IOSH, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience in operation & maintenance of utility and generation equipment.
  • Leadership skills balancing technical, financial, and people priorities.
  • Strong communication and IT skills.
