Job description

We have an excellent opportunity for a Principally Appointed Person to join our VolkerFitzpatrick business. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe planning, coordination, and execution of all lifting and hoisting activities across sites. This includes ensuring lifting operations are performed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with relevant legislation, company policies, and project specifications. The role oversees crane operations, lifting teams, equipment inspections, and risk management for all heavy lifting activities on civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

The Role
  • Multi-site based, often in challenging outdoor environments.
  • May involve shift work, weekend work or extended hours depending on the project schedule.
  • Requires travel between multiple project sites.
  • Is physically demanding and in high-risk environments.

Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in lifting operations within the construction or civil engineering industry.
  • Recognised certification as Appointed Person for Lifting Operations (e.g., CPCS A61 or NPORS equivalent).
  • NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations – Planning Lifts.
  • ECITB Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Construction – Rigging or Erecting Pathway (Desirable).
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (LOLER, PUWER, BS 7121, CDM Regulations and WAH regulations).
  • Experience working on major construction sites such as infrastructure projects (bridges, high-rises, highways, rail, tunnels).
  • Marine based experience with barges, spud barges and jack-up barges.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary lifting teams.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.
  • Hold Temporary Works Coordinator.
  • Have First Aid Certification.
  • Be able to establish requirements for mentorship and assess company AP capabilities.
