Overview

A Yorkshire based engineering Consultancy is leading a confidential search for an experienced and strategically minded Technical Director in Railway Engineering to advance the technical excellence and commercial growth of its rail infrastructure capability. This senior appointment is ideal for an established technical leader or an ambitious Associate Director ready to take the next step into a defining leadership position with strong organisational support for career progression.

The successful individual will provide overarching technical leadership and governance across complex railway engineering projects, ensuring delivery quality, compliance with industry standards, and alignment with client expectations. This role involves acting as a senior technical authority, guiding multidisciplinary teams, reviewing engineering designs, managing technical risk, and supporting project delivery from early concept through to completion. The post-holder will also support business development activities, contribute to bids and proposals, and build trusted relationships with clients and delivery partners.

A key aspect of the role is mentoring and developing emerging talent, fostering a culture of technical excellence and knowledge sharing. The Technical Director will work closely with leadership peers to strengthen capability, improve internal processes, and embed best practice across the rail discipline.

Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering and/or Structural Engineering; professional recognition by a relevant institution.
  • Substantial experience in railway engineering within consultancy or contracting environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Network Rail standards, CDM regulations, and British/EU design codes.
  • Proven experience in responsible engineering roles; eligibility for appointment as Contractor\'s Responsible Engineer (Designer) is highly desirable.
