Technical Assistant - Brentwood & Rochford District Council
Full-Time, Temporary 37 hours per week
6 months contract
£23.00 PAYE / £29.45 Umbrella per hour

Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Brentwood & Rochford District Councils in recruiting a Technical Assistant on a full-time, temporary basis. Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will be working within the Environments Team and will be subject to hybrid working with 2-3 days per week working across all depots.

As a Technical Assistant, you will support the management team with the technical planning and coordination of key services—making sure our resources are used efficiently, and that residents and commercial customers receive an excellent standard of service. From improving service schedules and analysing performance data, to handling customer accounts and ensuring compliance with financial processes, this is a varied and rewarding role where your problem-solving and communication skills will shine.

Responsibilities
  • Monitoring and enhancing the efficiency of grounds maintenance, waste and street cleaning services.
  • Undertaking research on best practice and innovation and presenting to the management team in an accessible format.
  • Analysing services data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Responding to service‑related enquiries and complaints with professionalism and care.
  • Supporting with researching & developing technical specifications to assist in the procurement of services and goods.
  • Supporting budget management and monitoring financial performance.
  • Liaising with contractors, internal departments, and external stakeholders.
  • Helping coordinate staff training and development.
  • Maintaining clear communication with the wider team and senior managers.
What We're Looking For
  • Minimum of 6 GCSEs grade C and above (including English and Maths).
  • Experience delivering frontline services or managing service contracts.
  • Proficiency in Excel, and other Microsoft tools.
  • Strong customer service and stakeholder management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Projects
  • Review and development of a draft environmental enforcement policy.
  • Procurement of contractor to deliver environmental enforcement.
  • Obtaining quotes and arranging training for key staff, developing programme for the year.
  • Review of staffing and overtime costs.Developing suite of H&S messages and comms for operational team.
  • Support the implementation of the litter bin (binfrastructure) plan and update and maintain the database.
  • Oversee the introduction of the Waste Storage Collection and Management Guide for New Developments.
  • Lead on the analysis of the Ingatestone wheeled bin trial, including tonnage data and residents feedback.
  • Support the roll‑out of food waste and other recycling streams to flat‑topped properties.
  • Assisting with day‑to‑day tasks on range of projects for Environment Board.
