Job summary

Job description

One of my local government clients is seeking a proactive and analytical Technical Assistant to join the Environments Team on a full-time temporary basis. This position offers hybrid working with two to three days per week required on site across various depots.

Working closely with the management team, you will play a key role in supporting the technical planning and coordination of essential frontline services. Your contribution will help ensure that resources are deployed efficiently and that residents and commercial customers receive consistently high standards of service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and improve the efficiency of grounds maintenance, waste and street cleaning services
  • Research industry best practice and present findings to the management team
  • Analyse service performance data and recommend improvements
  • Handle service-related enquiries and complaints professionally
  • Support the development of technical specifications for procurement
  • Assist with budget management and monitoring financial performance
  • Liaise with contractors, internal departments and external stakeholders
  • Help coordinate staff training and development programmes
  • Maintain clear communication with the wider operational team
Projects You Will Support
  • Review and development of a draft environmental enforcement policy
  • Procurement of contractors to deliver environmental enforcement
  • Organising training plans, quotes and schedules for key staff
  • Review of staffing and overtime costs
  • Developing health and safety communications for operational teams
  • Supporting implementation of the litter bin plan and maintaining the associated database
  • Oversight of the Waste Storage Collection and Management Guide for new developments
  • Lead analysis of the Ingatestone wheeled bin trial, including tonnage and resident feedback
  • Support the roll‑out of food waste and recycling streams to flatted properties
  • Contribute to day‑to‑day tasks across projects for the Environment Board
Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of six GCSEs at grade C or above (including English and Maths)
  • Experience delivering frontline services or managing service contracts
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency across Microsoft Office
  • Excellent customer service and stakeholder management abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
