Teaching Assistant – SEND Level 3 Apprenticeship, Oasis Watermead

Are you passionate about nurturing young minds and helping children embark on their educational journey? We seek enthusiastic, highly motivated individuals to join our team as a Teaching Assistant in our vibrant primary school setting. You will work with children in year 3 supporting them in class.

Key Details

Salary: 8.58p / h increasing to National Minimum Wage after 12 months

Working hours: Monday – Friday (shifts TBC) 37 hours per week

Location: Barrie Crescent, Sheffield S5 8RJ

Apprenticeship Details: 16 months expected duration to complete working towards your Teaching Assistant SEND Level 3 Apprenticeship. (All learning is delivered online / remote).

Training Provider: LMP Education (rated 1st best UK training provider)

Responsibilities

As a Teaching Assistant you will undertake education support duties and assist the class teacher in the day‑to‑day needs of the pupils in their care to enable the teacher to implement the curriculum and respond to the pupils’ needs. Your day‑to‑day duties will include:

  • Provide pupils with the level and type of support specified by the teacher whilst at the same time encouraging the pupils towards independence and accepting responsibility for their own behaviour.
  • Establish a good relationship with pupils by using language and other communication skills that the pupils can understand and relate to.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner.
  • Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with Academy policies by the use of praise and encouragement.
  • Help pupils with toileting and dressing paying particular attention to hygiene.
  • Supervise the children’s play involving toys and apparatus and role play under the direction of the teacher.
  • Assist with language and other activities under the direction of the teacher.
  • Supervise and support the activities of individual and groups of children under the direction of the teacher.
  • Undertake playground supervision during the mid‑morning and/or afternoon breaks and deal with unruly behaviour, reporting difficulties to a member of the teaching staff when necessary; supervise children in the dining area ensuring good standards of behaviour and manners and reporting any incidents of unacceptable behaviour to the Principal or other member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Must have GCSE Grade 4 / C or above in Maths and English.
