Overview

Job Title: Teaching Assistant

Location: Belmont Secondary School, Rawtenstall, BB4 6RX

Salary: £20,906.25 per annum (not pro rata)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday

Contract: Fixed Term (Maternity Cover) | 12 months from start date

Working Pattern: Term Time Only

Start date: November 2025

About the Role

Belmont Secondary School is delighted to offer a Teaching Assistant role on a maternity cover basis. The successful candidate will work to support pupils and teaching staff, focusing on emotional, social and behavioural development and helping pupils thrive in a positive learning environment. You will work under the guidance of the class teacher and the Senior Leadership Team, delivering targeted support to help every student achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils’ emotional, social, and behavioural wellbeing.
  • Assist teachers in developing and implementing individual education plans.
  • Provide in-class and one-to-one support for individual pupils and small groups.
  • Help prepare classroom resources and materials.
  • Occasionally assist in transporting pupils after school (e.g. after detentions or educational visits).
  • Promote positive relationships and self-esteem among pupils.
  • Accompany pupils and staff on external educational visits.
  • Maintain records of pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing within agreed frameworks.
What We’re Looking For
  • A calm, caring, and patient approach to working with young people.
  • Experience working with secondary-age pupils is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to build strong, positive relationships with students and staff.
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy – ideally GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths.
  • A strong team player who is also confident working independently.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
