Job description
Overview

Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Teacher of Physics to start in August 2026. The department is based in Brighton's new £55 million School of Science and Sport, with six dedicated physics laboratory spaces and ample administrative and technical workspace. The department has a well-resourced preparation room with its own dedicated technician and a team of 8 staff from diverse backgrounds, including research and industry. The subject is taught as a separate science at KS3, with all pupils studying all three sciences at GCSE (majority on the separate science pathway). The subject is popular, with 142 pupils studying Physics at A-level. We follow the Edexcel 9-1 syllabus for GCSE and the AQA syllabus for A-Level. Results have been excellent, including 98.6% Grades 9-7 at GCSE and 93.0% A–A at A-Level in recent years.

Responsibilities
  • Teach physics across the curriculum from Year 7 to A-level.
  • Contribute to the department’s extension programme and support pupils with applications to leading universities (including Oxford and Cambridge).
  • Assist in developing schemes of work and creating teaching resources; contribute content for Microsoft OneNote Notebooks and SharePoint.
  • Participate in the school’s pastoral system as a tutor in one of 16 houses (six boarding houses and ten day houses).
  • Engage in the cocurricular life of the school, including the extensive Games programme and/or leading one of over 100 school societies.
  • Take an active role in the Masterclass programme, weekly lessons on personal academic or cultural interests.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and participate in mentorship during probationary periods.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Qualified teacher with the ability to teach physics across the curriculum from Year 7 to A-level.
  • Willingness to support pupils with university applications and contribute to the department’s extension programme.
  • Experience or enthusiasm for developing schemes of work and high-quality teaching resources; ability to work with Microsoft OneNote and SharePoint.
