Are you an experienced angler with a passion for helping young people? We're hiring a Teacher of Fishing for an Alternative Provision school in Burnley. No formal teaching qualifications required; focus on therapeutic angling and positive youth development.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced angler to become a Teacher of Fishing for our alternative provision school in Burnley. This isn't a traditional classroom job; it's a unique and rewarding role where you will use the therapeutic power of angling to re-engage young people who have become disengaged from mainstream education.

This position is ideal for someone with a deep passion for fishing and a genuine desire to mentor and support young people with complex needs. While a formal teaching qualification (QTS) is not required, a strong background in outdoor education, youth work, or a similar field is essential. We will provide training and support for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging and safe therapeutic fishing sessions to small groups or one-on-one.
  • Teach fundamental angling skills and foster a love for the outdoors.
  • Utilise fishing as a tool for teaching patience, resilience, and mindfulness.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor, building strong, trusting relationships with students.
  • Ensure all activities adhere to strict health, safety, and safeguarding protocols.
What We're Looking For
  • Essential Experience: Extensive personal experience in fishing and a proven track record of working with young people.
  • Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
  • An understanding of the principles of alternative provision and social prescribing.
  • Relevant first aid and safeguarding qualifications (or a willingness to obtain them).
