Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Animal Management Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate must be able to teach up to Level 3, with experience delivering high-quality, engaging lessons in animal care and related subjects. A background in science as it applies to animal management is highly desirable, supporting a strong theoretical foundation in the curriculum. Experience with City & Guilds qualifications would be a significant advantage. You should be passionate about animal welfare and student success, with the ability to adapt your teaching to a range of learning needs. We have an exciting opportunity at our Wythenshawe Campus to join our Sport, Public Services and Care Professions Department as an Animal Management Teacher on a permanent, full‑time (35 hours per week) basis.

We welcome applications from aspiring teachers who are passionate about sharing their industry skills. At The Manchester College, you will be supported by our Teaching Academy to work towards qualified teacher status for post 16 compulsory education, through a Cert Ed/PGCE. This includes 3‑4 hours delivery per week and engagement with a mentor to support your progress in the profession while you work. The starting salary for an unqualified teacher is between £30,750 – £32,931*. It's a great way to kick‑start a rewarding career with full training and support. Once you've successfully qualified and demonstrated your teaching competence, you'll progress to the qualified teacher salary banding.

*Consideration will be given to relevant industry experience and skills with the flexibility to offer increased starting salaries in some circumstances*.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Certificate of education or PGCE.
  • Current and valid industry specialism.
  • Assessor qualifications (if required by Awarding Organisation).
  • Minimum Level 3 occupational qualification.
  • English and maths minimum level 2 Grace C or grade 4 and above.
