Position Overview

As a Systems Integration Engineer, you will play a pivotal role within Lear’s regional Innovation Hub under the EU & Africa Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering team. This unique opportunity allows you to work at the intersection of manufacturing digitalisation and technology deployment, collaborating closely with subject‑matter experts across Manufacturing, Logistics, Quality and IT.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in systems engineering, automation and digital integration, and a passion for connecting disparate technologies into cohesive scalable solutions. You will design, develop and implement integrated systems that enhance operational efficiency, data visibility and process control across Lear’s regional operations.

This hands‑on, solution‑focused role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys solving complex technical challenges and is driven by the impact of real‑world engineering applications. From concept to deployment you will lead integration efforts for Industry 4.0 technologies, including IoT, MES, ERP interfaces and smart automation systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and implement integration solutions between diverse technologies (e.g., IoT devices, cloud platforms, AI models, control systems).
  • Understand complex systems across hardware, software and process layers.
  • Define and manage data flows, APIs and communication protocols.
  • Develop and maintain middleware components and APIs to enable modular system design.
  • Ensure secure and efficient data exchange between components.
  • Collaborate with software developers, hardware engineers and data scientists to align interfaces and system requirements.
  • Troubleshoot integration issues and ensure system compatibility.
  • Evaluate emerging control technologies (edge computing, AI‑based control, etc.).
  • Support feasibility studies and POC development.
  • Create integration maps, interface specifications and technical documentation.
  • Work closely with teams in Manufacturing, Logistics, Quality and IT to understand operational needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Build and manage relationships with external partners, including universities, research institutions and suppliers.
Key Skills and Qualifications
  • Confidence in presenting and interfacing with senior stakeholders from multicultural backgrounds and functional disciplines.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel within the role.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to understand business processes and requirements.
  • Lean thinker: understands the benefits of standardisation and can explain clearly when challenged.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in manufacturing.
  • Ability to apply both academic and practical thinking to real‑world tech challenges.
  • Preferably experience in smart factory initiatives, IoT projects and digital transformation projects.
  • Excellent communication abilities.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ideally a Master’s in a related engineering or technical field; a Bachelor’s degree with relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Role based in Coventry.
