We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic applicant to join our established Sensory Team as a Support Assistant. The team provides advice, support and guidance, home‑based assessments, rehabilitation, teaching daily living skills, low‑vision therapy and a range of equipment and adaptations, as well as emotional and psychological support and signposting to a range of specialist services.
Your role will be to act as a driver and support assistant to enable a member of the Sensory team who has a visual impairment to carry out their duties efficiently and effectively. The current Sensory worker works under the direction of the specialist workers in the team to promote practical rehabilitation, independence and positive outcomes using a variety of practical interventions.
Drive the Sensory worker throughout their region of work to support client visits, training and meetings as commensurate with the Sensory worker Post Holder’s responsibilities.
Provide sighted assistance to the Sensory worker, including orientation and sighted guiding in unfamiliar environments, locate addresses, plan routes and timings of journeys to ensure the Sensory worker is able to fulfil their diary commitments in a punctual manner.
Ensure driving is within the standard road traffic regulations and maintain vehicle logs, complete monthly mileage forms, conduct vehicle checks, take vehicle for service, MOT and cleaning.
Take and read documentation to the Sensory Assistant as required, handle information in a sensitive manner and maintain confidentiality applying the Data Protection Act where necessary.
Assist with basic data input on Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word, maintain Outlook calendar and maintain accurate and confidential records using WCCIS.
Locate information from a variety of sources, including the internet, intranet and printed material.
Demonstrate commitment and actively participate in continuous professional development (CPD) as relevant to the role.
The ability to greet customers through the medium of Welsh is a requirement for this post.
Protecting children, young people or adults at risk is a core responsibility of all council employees.
An Enhanced with Adults Barred list criminal records check by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) is a requirement for this post.
A valid driving licence is requirement for this post.
