Salary: £35,412 to £38,220 (Grade 7)

Hours: 37 hours per week, flexible working hours in operation

Location: Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Headquarters

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Supplies Manager to join our team, responsible for leading the Supplies function for both Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service and Staffordshire Police . This role is crucial in ensuring the delivery of an efficient, high-quality service, managing the department’s inventory, suppliers, and personnel while driving operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

As Supplies Manager, you will manage and lead a team, ensuring that supplies are sourced, delivered on time, and stocked appropriately to meet the needs of both services. You will be key to ensuring the department provides excellent support and customer service while managing significant budgets and improving processes where possible.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Supplies team, including an Assistant Supplies Manager, Tailor / Tailoress, and Stock Controllers.
  • Provide high levels of support and customer service to all staff and third parties.
  • Research goods and services required by both services, reporting on findings and options to the Emergency Response Team.
  • Ensure department documents are reviewed and regularly updated.
  • Work with suppliers and Commercial Services to source and purchase goods and services at competitive prices, ensuring timely deliveries.
  • Manage inventory and implement effective control systems to avoid overstocking or shortages.
  • Conduct regular audits and stock-takes, investigating any discrepancies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and resolve any issues related to delivery, quality, or pricing.
  • Oversee the management of departmental budgets, track spending, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety practices set out by Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service.
  • Provide a robust postal / courier service for all departments within the organisation.
About You

We’re seeking proactive and flexible individuals who are :

  • Experienced in managing and motivating a small team.
  • Organised and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong communicators, able to liaise with internal departments and external suppliers.
  • Committed to ensuring the department runs efficiently while adhering to Health and Safety standards.
  • Highly analytical, with the ability to make cost-effective decisions and implement improvements.
Essential Criteria
  • Possession of (or willingness to complete) IOSH (The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) qualification.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a Supplies Manager or similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and motivating a small team.
  • Willingness to work towards or possession of a full Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) qualification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Hold a full UK driver's license
Desirable Criteria
  • Possession of an HNC or equivalent qualification.
  • Advanced knowledge of stock control systems.
Hours and Working Pattern

Core hours: Monday to Friday (flexible working arrangements available)
