Purpose of the Role

The successful and safe delivery of programmed Rail Milling Operations and Maintenance. Lead both Maintenance and Operational Rail Milling Shifts.

Person Specification
  • Engineering background, be it electrical, mechanical, hydraulic or all, looking to further their career in the rail industry.
  • Applicants will have to have a keen eye for detail, the ability to work alone or as part of a team and a “can do” attitude when faced with solving problems.
  • Lodging away from home will be required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Leading both day and night shifts to operate/maintain the machine safely and effectively, in accordance with the VMI and Colas policies.
  • Reporting any machine defects to the Fleet Engineer and/or Colas Rail Control, where appropriate, both in real time and via end of shift reports.
  • Collating the data output from the machine where applicable.
  • To work safely and effectively to Colas Rail Services Operations procedures.
  • Act as 1st line on-site management
  • Assist in maintaining quality systems, machine safety packs and stabling database by continually monitoring, reviewing and making recommendations for updating as required.
  • Deliver and record Team Briefs, Safety Briefs, Pre-Start Safety Tours.
  • Undertake any other duties if assessed as competent to do so.
  • As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
