Job summary

A creative communications agency is seeking a strategist. The role focuses on developing brand and integrated communications strategies for cycling and outdoor brands. You will work closely with teams and clients, utilizing insights and data to guide campaigns. The ideal candidate is a passionate brand thinker with strong communication skills and experience in strategy roles. This is an office-based position in Bath, UK, requiring a minimum of three days a week in the office.

Qualifications

Job description

SHIFT Active Media is looking for a strategist with a passion for the potential of cycling, the outdoors and for creative communications.

Working closely with the Chief Strategy Officer, the wider SHIFT team and our clients to develop brand, media, and integrated communications strategies that help cycling and outdoor brands thrive. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of our strategic tools and thought leadership programme.

We believe in the power of collaborating in person to build stronger connections, so we team members to work a minimum of three days per week in our Bath, UK offices.

Responsibilities
  • Strategy and planning. Support strategy and planning on key accounts and develop new communications plans for a wide range of cycling brands, feeding into brand positioning, creative campaigns, PR, and media plans.
  • Insight development. Tap into our research team, unique data sets and expert network to uncover insights into audiences and markets that guide strategic recommendations.
  • Briefing and collaboration. Take an active role in developing new creative, PR, media, and social plans. You will write and deliver discipline‑specific briefs and help teams from different disciplines collaborate to create combined solutions.
  • Effectiveness and evolution. Establish measures for effectiveness and coordinate analysis for your campaigns. You will also support the Head of Strategy & Research in evolving and adding to our "strategic toolbox".

  • Brand and strategic thinker. You are confident in getting under the skin of a brand to define its positioning. You can cut through complexity to deliver clear and inspiring communication strategies.
  • Creative and articulate. You have the ability to grasp consumer insights and develop compelling propositions. You enjoy working with creative, social, and PR teams to develop new plans and executions.
  • Marketing knowledge. You have a solid understanding of marketing theory, channels, and emerging technologies.
  • Comfortable with data and technology. You are not fazed by figures or data and are happy working in spreadsheets. You integrate agentic AI tools into your workflow to scale what can be achieved, whilst still ensuring a high level of quality and accuracy.
  • Communication skills. You are able to produce well‑crafted presentations and documents, communicating complex ideas in a simple way.
  • Collaborative. You can build strong, positive relationships with clients and internal teams to keep projects moving forward.
  • A passion for cycling. A genuine passion for cycling and outdoor pursuits will make this role hugely rewarding.
Preferred experience

You should have experience working in a strategy or planning role within an agency or a relevant client‑side marketing role. You will have spent a number of years specifically developing marketing and/or communication strategies and have experience using a range of insight sources and data types to feed into your plans.
