Overview

Permanent Band 5 Staff Nurse – TESH Pre-Assessment Unit. This position is for a registered nurse with a minimum of 18 months clinical experience to join an established nursing team within pre-operative assessment. The post holder will, after appropriate training, clinically assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care to a timescale for patients prior to elective surgery.

The clinic is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday (5 days a week). The service is based within Trafford Elective Surgical Hub at Trafford General Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake clinical observations such as blood pressure, pulse, oximetry and BMI; perform clinical examinations including MRSA screening, CPE screening, 12-lead ECG recording and venipuncture.
  • Provide a comprehensive nursing and medical assessment, ensuring all necessary results and reviews are collated prior to admission.
  • Assist in developing an environment that supports the value of pre-operative assessment by working collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists and the MDT.
  • Apply a high level of clinical judgement and make decisions in accordance with national, Trust and local standards; maintain a patient-focused approach.
  • Develop and contribute to pre-operative pathways for a wide range of elective surgical specialties; require broad knowledge in surgical nursing with medical knowledge as an advantage.
  • Demonstrate reliability, innovation and flexibility with strong interpersonal/communication skills.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 18 months experience as a Band 5 Staff Nurse.
  • Preferably prior Pre-operative Assessment experience; not essential.
  • Knowledge relevant to pre-operative assessment and surgical nursing; ability to work with the MDT and multidisciplinary team.
