A London-based NHS Trust is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Adult Burns Centre. Responsibilities include delivering high-quality care and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidates will be NMC registered with at least 12 months of nursing experience and a keen interest in Burns/Plastic Surgery. Staff Nurse, London Burns Centre - Burns, Band 5. An opportunity for a Band 5 clinic role for a Staff Nurse to join the specialist team at the Adult Burns Centre, based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The unit includes 2x ITU, 2x HDU, 12x Ward beds, 2x Outpatient clinic rooms, and an operating theatre within the unit. The centre is part of the London and South East England Burns Network and is a leading centre for Burns care in South East England.
We are seeking NMC registered staff nurses with 12 months or more general nursing experience who are interested in Burns/Plastic Surgery or HDU. Candidates should be enthusiastic to learn and develop skills within the Burns specialty.
The Staff Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of high-quality patient care, working in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The Staff Nurse will:
• Maintain professional behaviour and promote a positive image of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Contribute to a high quality safe working environment. Participate in setting standards for nursing practice and care involving the multidisciplinary team. Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and guidelines. Understand and follow Trust and Unit policies, procedures and infection control measures. Protect patient confidentiality and follow the Data Protection Act. Maintain clear and accurate documentation. Be aware of Clinical Governance and local audit processes. Participate in ordering and maintaining stock. Work with the team to implement quality improvements and report complaints, incidents or accidents as appropriate. Shift patterns and weekends may be required to meet service needs.
• Demonstrate personal professional development, maintain up-to-date clinical skills and ensure mandatory training is current. Be aware of developments in nursing and the NHS. Participate in team/ward meetings, local audits and research projects as applicable. Support ongoing ward development as a positive learning environment. Ensure appraisal and personal development plans are current. Support learners and provide feedback; participate in local teaching sessions.
• Manage a group of patients commensurate with experience. Supervise unqualified staff under supervision. Manage the ward/department in the absence of senior nurses where appropriate. Demonstrate effective time management and prioritisation. Contribute to induction and orientation of new staff. Support teaching and mentorship of pre/post-registration students. Demonstrate leadership in supervision, development and feedback of junior staff. Be aware of cost implications and assist in resource management (equipment, supplies).
• Use effective communication to support patient care, including professional handover and incident reporting when necessary. Communicate with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team, ensuring appropriate nursing input into discussions. Ensure communications are clear and appropriate for diverse recipients and barriers such as language or health conditions. Uphold Trust values and maintain courtesy, sensitivity and good customer relations. Work cohesively with the ward team and within a multi-racial environment.
• Familiarise yourself with required policies and procedures. You may be asked to work in other departments or cross-site as needed, with reasonable notice.
