Job Summary

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse on Mulberry 1. Mulberry 1 is a 14‑beded acute assessment mental health ward for adults aged 18‑65 years. As part of our commitment to high‑quality care, it provides rapid assessment and short‑term support for individuals experiencing acute mental health needs. The ward plays a vital role in stabilising patients and planning their next steps in treatment and recovery.

Main Duties
  • Provide evidence‑based nursing care for service users with mental and physical health needs.
  • Interact frequently with carers and families, providing support and advice where appropriate.
  • Work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT); lead on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care on a rotational shift basis.
  • Maintain knowledge of local, national policies and legislation governing service provision.
  • Support the training needs of junior registered and unregistered staff and promote equality, diversity and rights in line with best practice and legislation.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out a full range of registered nurse duties, including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care with support from the nurse in charge.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with service users and implement evidence‑based therapeutic interventions within the NMC professional code of conduct.
  • Understand NICE quality standards and relevant guidance.
  • Prioritise nursing care, recognise deterioration and alert senior staff immediately.
  • Participate in health education and explain treatment to patients and relatives.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, including those requiring enhanced monitoring.
  • Promote involvement of service users, carers and relatives within the service.
  • Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act 2007.
  • Escort patients in line with Trust policy.
  • Provide holistic care that incorporates excellence in physical health care management.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) or Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD).
  • NMC registration.
  • Experience of in‑patient services and working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and legislation (Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Equality Act, etc.).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, IT literacy (MS Office).
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.
  • Knowledge of mental health presentations and appropriate interventions.
  • High level of organisational and initiative skills.
  • Motivation to provide the highest standard of care in a changing service.
