We are delighted to share we have vacancies for band 5 staff nurses to join the endoscopy team at Bishop Auckland following our expansion and refurbishment of the unit. We welcome both experienced and newly qualified staff nurses.
Within endoscopy no two days are the same. We are looking to recruit highly motivated, dynamic, forward-thinking nurses to help provide a safe, high-quality service to patients across the trust.
The endoscopy service provides a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both inpatients and outpatients carried out within our four procedure rooms. We are also proud to be accredited for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Our nurses ensure the safe admission, recovery and discharge of patients, as well as assisting our Consultants and Nurse Endoscopists within the procedure room. Patients attend the endoscopy department for various endoscopic procedures – colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy and cystoscopy, as well as some therapeutic procedures. Patients are referred to the endoscopy service via different routes; GP referrals, surveillance programmes, bowel cancer screening programmes or referred via the multi‑disciplinary team. We are proud to provide a comprehensive in‑house training programme which ensures nurses feel supported and competent in their abilities. We also participate in an out‑of‑hours on‑call rota with Darlington Memorial Hospital acute site.
We provide a detailed and supported training programme to ensure all competencies are achieved and assessed via knowledge and practice. When you join the endoscopy team we will ensure a mentor is allocated who would hold regular meetings with their trainee to guarantee a friendly and supported working environment. Your mentor would support you through all areas of the endoscopy training programme; admissions, recovery and in the procedure rooms. We are also delighted to offer endoscopy‑based online training resources and simulation study days to enhance your learning experience. There are numerous career progression avenues within the service, whether it is becoming a Nurse Endoscopist, senior nurse or specialist nurse within one of the multidisciplinary teams we work closely with. If you want to work within a friendly, supportive environment, are willing to learn and are a good team player, feel free to contact us for more information.
We provide hospital services from two acute sites – Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester‑Le‑Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community‑based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates as they are currently under‑represented.
