Job summary

A leading educational organization in Kidderminster is seeking a dedicated Sports Coach to provide engaging sports sessions tailored for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) as well as Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. This role requires relevant coaching qualifications and emphasizes developing inclusive sports activities to boost confidence and well-being among students. The ideal candidate will have experience with SEND/SEMH requirements and a creative approach to engaging young people in sports activities. Additional training related to SEND/SEMH is highly desirable.

Qualifications

Sports Coach

Main Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive sports sessions tailored to the needs of students with SEND and SEMH requirements.
  • Modify activities to ensure that all students can participate fully, regardless of their physical, emotional, or cognitive challenges.
  • Encourage a positive, team-oriented environment that promotes self-confidence, emotional well-being, and resilience in students.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other support teams to align sports activities with students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Monitor and assess student progress, offering constructive feedback and celebrating achievements.
  • Use sport and physical activity to help students regulate emotions, develop social skills, and build self-esteem.
  • Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, understanding their individual needs and providing emotional support through sport.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out safely and in line with health and safety regulations.
Qualifications

Relevant sports coaching qualifications or a degree in Physical Education or Sports Science. Additional qualifications or training related to SEND or SEMH are highly desirable.

Experience

Prior experience of coaching or teaching children with SEND and/or SEMH needs is preferred.
