Speech and Language Therapist - Dysphagia

Location: Grimsby

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9am5pm (flexible 8am4pm considered)

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

We are recruiting for a Speech and Language Therapist to join a specialist Learning Disabilities and Autism service for adults. This is a newly created role, introduced to meet the growing needs of the service and to provide dedicated on-site SALT support.

The Service
  • Specialist LD and Autism service for adults (18+)
  • Mixed-gender service
  • Apartment-style setting (not a ward), made up of terraced apartments around a central courtyard
  • Maximum capacity of 20 service users
  • Some individuals require single occupancy within two-bed apartments to meet their needs
  • All service users are detained under Section 3
  • No current forensic cases
  • Focus on progression to community placements (typically 12 years, though some stays are longer due to placement availability)
  • Rated Good by CQC, with consistently positive regulatory feedback
  • Established MDT in place, including Occupational Therapy and Psychology
The Role

This is an excellent opportunity to shape and develop SALT provision within the service. You will:

  • Deliver specialist SALT assessment and intervention for adults with LD and Autism
  • Support individuals with dysphagia and complex communication needs
  • Work collaboratively within a well-established MDT
  • Contribute to person-centred care planning and positive outcomes
  • Provide clinical supervision to a SALT apprentice (if experienced)
  • Report to the Regional Lead SALT and Hospital Director
Essential Requirements
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC registered
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism
  • Dysphagia experience
  • Ability to work independently within a specialist setting
Desirable Experience
  • Understanding of sensory needs
  • Experience using AAC and Makaton
  • Experience providing clinical supervision
  • Experience working with individuals who have a history of trauma
