About the Role
As aSpeech and Language Therapist, youll work across the 025 age range, delivering evidence-based interventions and supporting schools, families, and professionals to improve outcomes for children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). Youll be part of a multidisciplinary locality hub team, contributing to statutory processes and developing inclusive practices. Across the team, you will benefit from excellent peer support.

The Inclusion Service works in partnership with all schoolsand settings within North Yorkshire to promote the inclusion, participation andachievement of children and young people with SEND. These services areallocated into SEND hubs, coordinating provision at a locality level acrossCYPS as a whole, to ensure needs are met holistically. This role involves aspecialist level of spoken communications, so a confident use of Englishlanguage is required.
Job purpose
To carry out the professional responsibilities of a Speechand Language Therapist. To improve the communication skills of the learners bydirect intervention, and developing the skills and resources of the staff.
Operational Management
Support and advise the educationstaff, children and young people and parents on a wide range of organisationaland curriculum issues relating to Speech Language and Communication Needsacross the 0 25 age range. Preparation and delivery of training toprofessionals, schools and settings relating to Speech, Language andCommunication Needs. Model and coach interventions with education settingsand families. Work creatively and problem solve to ensure positive outcomes forchildren and young people with SLCN. To contribute to reports, reviews andre-assessments as required by the SEND team as part of the statutory process,within their professional role. To manage a caseload as specified by the linemanager and in accordance with service policies and professional role,delivering a range of specific evidence based speech and language therapyinterventions. To supervise and manage the speech and language therapyassistant(s) within the locality Prioritise and manage own workload withinthe boundaries of the role, and as advised by professional lead. Ensure thatall work is planned for maximum efficiency and minimal travel.
Communications: Develop a range of appropriate information/ supporting materials (including web[1]based)to support schools and families. Use clear, accessible language whencommunicating. Ensure clarity and specificity in describing the service offerin order to manage expectations of the teachers and the service usersfamilies. Effectively communicate needs, outcomes and provision required inwritten reports to contribute to statutory SEND process. Keep up to date withbest practice and contribute to the professional development of staff bothinternally and externally
Partnerships / corporate working: To work as part of anestablished, multidisciplinary locality hub team based on a flexible approachto support. Develop and sustain integrated working and effectiverelationships with health, statutory and voluntary agencies, and professionalswithin the broader range of services for children and families to supportchildren and young people, specifically the SEND locality hub. To work inpartnership with staff in Targeted Mainstream Provisions and Personalised LearningPathways to ensure support for children and young people with communication andinteraction needs is appropriately integrated into the settings. Shareexperience and provide professional advice and guidance to other agencies asrequired, working as closely as possible to ensure holistic support.
Resource management: To effectively advise schools,settings and parents / carers on appropriate resources to support speech,language and communication development. Systems and information: Provide dataon children and young peoples progress and outcomes to inform LA datacollection and analysis, service development and professional performancemanagement. To keep appropriate and timely records and case notes. Strategicmanagement: Work within the boundaries and ethos of school/service policiesand procedures. Safeguarding: Ensure appropriate confidentiality in allinteractions. Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare ofyoung people and vulnerable adults that you are responsible for and come intocontact with. Involve learners when taking actions that concern them.Communicate, record and report actions and outcomes using the most appropriateformat e.g., service recording forms. Ensure that information sharingprotocols for children and young people, and their families, as set out in theGeneral Framework for Information Sharing in North Yorkshire (2005) are adheredto.
