Job Title – Specifications Technologist

Job Location – North Co. Down

Salary – £30K - £33K

About the Company:

Inform3 are currently recruiting for a Specifications Technologist for our client based in North Co. Down. You will be reporting to the Technical Manager, this role is responsible for leading the Food Safety & Quality team in delivering Site technical compliance for all relevant Customer and Supplier approvals and specifications whilst ensuring Site compliance.

You will also be involved in being responsible for ensuring the site Technical and Food Safety KPI targets and timelines are met, in respect of Supplier approvals and Customer and Supplier specification management.

Hours – Monday to Friday dayshift, permanent role, Holidays 32 days per year including stat days, Company pension, Employee discount and Health & wellbeing programme.

Duties Include:

• Modify existing products and processes and develop new ones.
• Check and improve safety and quality control procedures in your own and suppliers' factories, from the raw material stage through to the finished product.
• Research current consumer markets and latest technologies to develop new product concepts.
• Select raw materials and other ingredients from suppliers.
• Prepare product costings based on raw materials and manufacturing costs to ensure profitable products.
• Audit suppliers or manage internal audits.
• Run trials of new products - either alongside or together with product development
• Deal with any customer complaint investigations or product issues.
• Compile, check and approve product specifications and ensure clear labelling.
• Undertake long-term projects with other departments, such as reducing waste by improving efficiency.
• Work on packaging innovation and technology.
• Conduct experiments and produce sample products.
• Design the processes and machinery for making products on repeat with a consistent flavour, colour and texture in large quantities.
• Build relationships with suppliers and customers, and work with colleagues in other areas such as procurement, sales, technical services and marketing and distribution.
• Ensure products are profitable.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Third Level qualification in a Food related discipline, or related field.
• Experience in a Specification and Supplier Approval Technologist role or similar position within the food manufacturing industry.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills appropriate to role.
• Experience in Customer’s Specification Management systems
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• A broad knowledge of Food Safety and Quality standards (HACCP, VACCP, BRC, Customer, legal and Other third-party standards such as ISO 14001, RSPO etc).
• Ability to work effectively to deliver challenging team and departmental targets and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
