Overview

A Vacancy at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary psychiatric liaison service designed to be integrated into the acute hospital but to maintain strong links to mental health services. The Salford Mental Health Liaison Team is one of the most established Liaison Teams in Greater Manchester, with strong links across the city-wide liaison network. The post holder will work closely with the Consultants and other team colleagues in the Liaison Service to develop a high quality, responsive, flexible and integrated service meeting the needs of its client group and the Salford Royal Hospital.

The post holder will be expected to assess the full range of different types of referrals. This will include assessments under the Mental Health Act, including patients who present to the A&E department. Other assessments on other wards (regional major trauma unit, regional neurology unit, medical and surgical assessment units and complex care wards, i.e. any ward of the Salford Royal Hospital) will also be allocated to the post holder.

Responsibilities
  • Assess referrals including assessments under the Mental Health Act and patients presenting to the A&E department.
  • Carry out assessments on other wards across Salford Royal Hospital (regional major trauma unit, regional neurology unit, medical and surgical assessment units and complex care wards).
  • Maintain an average workload of 2 new assessments in a full clinical post, or 3 follow-up appointments in the same time period; see 10–16 patients in a typical week.
  • Provide psychiatric assessment to patients aged 16 and over.
  • Ensure high quality medical and psychiatric records are kept for clients treated by the service; prepare communications to GPs and others when a client is discharged from the service.
  • Work with Consultants and other team colleagues to deliver a high quality, responsive and integrated service that meets the needs of the client group and the hospital.

The Liaison Service will not manage patients outside of the Salford Royal Hospital.
