Main duties of the job

Clinical duties within the Oral Surgery Department and Primary Care Unit involve the outpatient and day case care of patients at the Birmingham Dental Hospital, as directed by the Consultant in charge of the Department or their nominated deputy. The post holder is clinically and managerially responsible to the Head of Service in Oral Surgery.

These duties involve all aspects of outpatient oral surgery, including consultation clinics and demand driven sessions. The timetable includes commitments to surgical activity utilising local anaesthesia, sedation and general anaesthetic techniques. The successful applicant must be prepared to work in all areas within Oral Surgery and Primary Care.

There is a requirement to undertake a session on the late cover rota. This provides professional cover until all patients have vacated the Primary Care Unit at the end of the day.

It is expected that the post holder will give advice and assistance to members of the junior dental staff in training within the Department as the need arises and to participate in the clinical teaching of undergraduate and junior staff in training.

Discharge of clinical duties will be in accordance with Trust Policies and Procedures.

So far as is consistent with proper discharge of the above duties the post holder undertakes to deputise for absent colleagues as directed by the Head of Service.
