Job description
Overview

This is a 6 PA post based at the purpose built Hopewood site which opened in 2018. The Specialty Doctor will be employed by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and will join the fifteen other NHS Consultants, two Academic Consultants and a Specialty Doctor in the CAMHS service.

This is an excellent and career-enhancing opportunity to work within a high-quality Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. This post will provide medical and psychiatric support to the ward.

The post holder will be expected to support and consult to the multidisciplinary team to offer psychiatric expertise and direct involvement in the areas of: assessment and diagnosis, pharmacological treatments, use of the Mental Health Act (if Section 12 approved) and other relevant legislation in the management of children and young people, and the management of complex and/or risky presentations and severe symptomatology.

In addition, the post holder with support from the consultant is expected to provide psychiatric advice and expertise directly to young people admitted to the ward, and to their parents/carers to support their decision‑making and involvement in their young person’s recovery.

The post holder will contribute to chairing ward review (on an MDT rotational basis). They will contribute to providing verbal and written medical feedback at ward reviews. They will regularly review patients admitted to the ward.

Involvement in other clinical tasks for the team (such as therapy provision) may be possible but would be negotiated through job planning and would take second priority to the key psychiatric and leadership tasks.

Responsibilities
  1. To provide the child and adolescent psychiatry clinical contribution to the multi-disciplinary team including consultation and support to the team, and the provision of safe and effective, evidence-based care.
  2. Attend and Chair Clinical Meetings including CPAs.
  3. Where appropriate attend and contribute to business meetings including CAMHS Medical Staff Meetings.
  4. Become an active member of an appropriate Peer Group
  5. Provide psychiatric assessments, including assessment of risk to self and others, for admitted young people.
  6. Be actively involved in the management of physical healthcare for young people admitted to the ward, liaising with pediatric services as necessary.
  7. Support the consultant in discharging his or her Responsible Clinician responsibilities including coordination of SOAD reviews, provision of reports and verbal evidence for Tribunals and Managers Panel Reviews.
  8. With support from the consultant provide consultation to other members of the team regarding cases being managed by the team, and consultation to professional networks as required.
  9. To maintain good and timely record keeping (mainly through electronic notes), ensure the high quality of clinical information including discharge summaries and specialist reports, and contribute to audit and outcome monitoring.
  10. Alongside another team member complete pre‑admission appointments.
  11. To be an active member of the leadership group within the team and undertake management duties as agreed with the supervising consultant.
  12. With support from the supervising consultant to provide informal supervision to resident medical colleagues and medical students.
  13. To maintain own continued professional development for annual appraisal and revalidation and to support clinical needs of the team.
  14. There is opportunity to take part in research and audit work as appropriate.
