Global Investor and Distribution Solutions (GIDS) is the business unit offering this role. GIDS delivers global omni-channel investor servicing, including contact centre, using digital services.
The Specialist Underwriter role involves conducting detailedmedical risk assessmentsto evaluate clients’ health profile, directly influencing discount rates applied to Discounted Gift Plans (DGPs). The successful candidate will makeaccurate and timely underwriting decisionswithin delegated authority, balancing commercial risk with positive client outcomes.
Medical Risk Assessment: Evaluate clients’ medical information to determine life expectancy and insurability, which directly impacts the discount applied to DGPs.
Underwriting Decisions: Make accurate, fair, and timely underwriting decisions within agreed authority limits, balancing commercial risk and client outcomes.
Discount Calculations: Collaborate with actuarial and technical teams to calculate the present value of retained rights for DGPs, based on life expectancy, investment assumptions, and HMRC guidelines
Client & Adviser Support: Provide technical underwriting support to financial advisers, trustees, and internal stakeholders regarding DGP structures and medical underwriting requirements.
Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all underwriting decisions and processes comply with FCA regulations, HMRC expectations, and internal governance standards.
Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of underwriting philosophy, rules engines, and process enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy.
