Overview

Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Deafness) – 0.6 WTE Paediatric vacancy in Barking & Dagenham, North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT). Closing date: 14 October 2025.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join a well-established, supportive and experienced SLT team in the Deafness Pathway. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills and interests within a service committed to up-to-date research and evidence-based practice, including innovative approaches such as AI and online platforms. We offer CPD through whole-team training, away days and individual training, monthly team meetings, integrated children’s services meetings, and regular team socials. The service is flexible with options for compressed hours to suit the needs of the service and the individual.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the provision of Speech and Language Therapy clinical care pathways across Barking and Dagenham.

To independently organise, plan and prioritise your own workload, and that of more junior and assistant staff.

To deliver comprehensive formal and informal assessment as appropriate and make differential diagnosis on the basis of assessment findings.

To develop evidence-based intervention programmes, adapt and facilitate therapy according to client-centred needs.

To provide specialist knowledge, advice, training and teaching to parents, carers, students and the Speech and Language Therapy team.

To work closely with clients, carers, families and school staff to embed inclusive speech, language and communication practice across settings.

To provide mentoring of colleagues and peer support.

To contribute to multi-disciplinary team working to ensure coordinated service provision.

To attend relevant training courses, meetings and special interest groups related to your specialism in order to maintain skills and knowledge required of a Speech and Language Therapist working in paediatrics.

About us

Starting with NELFT – NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. New starters will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers and attend drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction is held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff). High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary with a minimum payment of £4,714 and a maximum payment of £5,941 per annum pro rata.
