Overview

A Vacancy at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. We are seeking a part-time (26.25 hrs per week) Specialist Physiotherapist, experienced in working with vascular and amputee patients, to work alongside the existing Occupational and Physiotherapists, providing high-quality therapy treatment to this cohort of patients.

The post is focused on delivering person-centred care across a 7‑day service, including supporting vascular patients on the acute wards, pre- and post-operatively, and within our Therapy Out-patient gym. This is an opportunity to utilise clinical, managerial and leadership skills.

This post is part of the wider Therapy services department. You will have opportunities to develop new skills through in-service training and will be part of a large department of over 300 Therapy staff, including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff, enabling peer support from the wider team.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver therapy for vascular patients, including those with multiple pathologies and complex social situations, in a fast-paced acute environment.
  • Conduct early assessment and complex discharge planning, with follow-up in the Therapy Out-patient setting for prosthetic rehabilitation.
  • Work as part of a small team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, supported by therapy support staff; supervise and educate students and junior staff as appropriate.
  • Participate in 7-day therapy service delivery (including weekends and Bank Holidays) on a rota basis.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Proven experience working with vascular and amputee patients (ideally in an acute hospital setting); broader experience in orthopaedics, respiratory care or neurology is beneficial.
  • Understanding and knowledge of complex equipment, including wheelchairs.
  • Experience providing teaching to the wider MDT, therapy teams and students.
  • Clear, expressed desire to work at UHS in this clinical area.
