Specialist Pharmacist - Respiratory & Antimicrobials Department: Pharmacy Band 7 £47,810 - £54,710 per annum Full-time 37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MKUH), in proud partnership with the University of Buckingham, is a University Teaching Hospital committed to advancing patient care through research and education. We are a medium-sized general hospital providing a full range of medical and surgical services, with recent investments including a major departmental refurbishment, a new Pharmacy Robot, a Pharmacy and Aseptic Unit in the Cancer Centre, and a new Outpatient Pharmacy. We also opened the Radiotherapy Centre in January 2025 and are expanding with facilities such as the Community Diagnostic Centre at Whitehouse Health Centre and a new Women and Children’s Centre planned by 2030.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care as part of a growing team of Clinical Pharmacists & Specialist Pharmacists across a wide range of clinical specialties.
  • Support ward-based clinical pharmacy services within respiratory medicine and provide clinical support to the dispensary.
  • Support and supervise junior staff; undertake quality improvement and audit work.
  • Advocate for medicines optimisation and safety initiatives at ward level.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Pharmacist to address medicines-related issues affecting respiratory medicines and antimicrobial use.
  • Contribute to antimicrobial stewardship activities and support the development of medicines management across the Trust.
  • Assist in planning, development and evaluation of pharmaceutical services across MKUH.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Specialist pharmacist with expertise in respiratory medicine and antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Ability to work within a team and to deliver safe, effective and efficient clinical pharmacy services.
  • Commitment to training and development of staff in pharmacy and within Clinical Service Units (CSUs).
  • Compliance with the General Pharmaceutical Council code of professional conduct; accountable for own decisions and actions.
Operational and Development
  • Contribute to day-to-day pharmacy activities and provide rota cover for dispensary, Saturdays and Bank Holidays; participate in on-call arrangements as per On-Call Procedure.
  • Utilise effective communication systems; contribute to training packages for junior staff rotating through the service.
  • Support the planning and future development of all aspects of pharmacy services at MKUH.
