Main duties of the job

The Nitty-Gritty (But Still Exciting!)

  • Your Mission: As a vital member of our community multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation team, you'll be providing top-notch occupational therapy to the residents of Harrow. This includes our Early Supported Discharge Service for Stroke and our Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service. You'll be empowering individuals with acquired or progressive neurological conditions to live their best lives!
  • Your Superpowers: You'll be an autonomous practitioner, managing your own caseload, assessing and treating clients, and keeping on top of your professional documentation - all while adhering to professional standards and best practices.
  • Building Bridges: You'll be building and nurturing strong relationships with our referrers, including GPs, hospitals, bedded services, district nurses, wheelchair services, Speech & Language Therapy, and other CLCH services. You'll be the go-to OT guru!
  • Guiding the Next Generation: You'll have the rewarding responsibility of supervising rehabilitation assistants and occupational therapy students - sharing your knowledge and passion!
  • Your Playground: You'll be primarily working in clients' homes, but also in clinics, residential care homes, continuing care homes, and community centres - variety is the spice of life!

Education/Qualification
  • Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of up to date CPD portfolio
  • Involvement in Appraisal Scheme
  • Attendance at specialist short courses or equivalent CPD activities within the specialist areas of Adult Rehabilitation, Neurology, Older People Rehabilitation
  • Post graduate degree in relevant area
  • Member of a Special Interest Group relevant to this post
  • Member of BAOT
Experience
  • Experience working in a range of clinical areas such as neurology, general rehabilitation, falls, elderly medicine.
  • Post registration experience as an Band 6 occupational therapist in neurology (possibly as part of a rotation).
  • Experience of wide range of specialist services eg. falls services, wheelchair services, and learning disabilities
  • Experience of community rehabilitation
  • Experience of working in the NHS
Skills and Knowledge
  • Skills in the assessment and treatment of adults with complex neurological conditions and multi-pathologies
  • Knowledge and understanding of complex medical conditions including, neurology, multi-pathologies and falls
  • Knowledge of role of Allied Health Professionals and interdisciplinary team working
  • Ability to apply core occupational therapy skills across a range of clinical conditions within a client centred, goal setting
  • Knowledge of outcome measures and evidence based practice relevant to occupational therapy practice in neurology
  • Knowledge of the National Stroke Strategy, Clinical Guidelines for Stroke and the National Service Framework for Long-term condtiona
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritise and demonstrate clinical reasoning
  • Basic IT skills - Microsoft Word, Power point, Excel
  • Teaching of junior staff / students, peers in in service training setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role of Social Services and voluntary agencies
  • Supervision of assistant / junior staff

  • Knowledge and understanding of National Service Framework for Older People, NICE Guidance and Clinical Guidelines for progressive conditions
