Overview
Permanent specialist anaesthesia post at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
The post is 10 programmed activities per week and can be part‑time or flexible.
The successful applicant will provide independent anaesthesia, pre‑operative assessment, post‑operative visits, teaching and audit.
The position holder will work in a team that delivers high quality surgical care across a range of specialties.
Responsibilities
- Deliver excellent clinical care in anaesthesia, independent general and regional anaesthesia and procedural sedation.
- Provide pre‑operative assessment, post‑operative visits and general and regional teaching.
- Contribute to audit and quality improvement projects, presenting data and implementing change.
- Work within clinical governance guidelines and participate in audit and quality improvement projects.
Qualifications
- Full registration with the GMC and a postgraduate qualification in anaesthesia.
- Membership of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) or equivalent.
- Current Advanced Life Support training and ability to practise safe and effective general and regional anaesthesia, independent of all patients.
- Minimum of 12 years’ medical work (including at least 6 years in a relevant specialty). The candidate must meet the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework.
- Previous experience working in the NHS and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision of trainees.

- Understanding of NHS management structures and experience in clinical leadership roles.
- Evidence of personal involvement in research and contribution to improving patients’ experience.
- Excellent communication skills, written and spoken, and strong interpersonal skills.
