Solar PV Installer, Qualified and Experienced
Permanent, Nationwide Role
Morson Edge are looking for an experienced Solar PV Installer to join a leading UK commercial and industrial rooftop solar installation business. This is a permanent, nationwide position offering consistent work, autonomy on site and the opportunity to be part of a well established and growing renewables operation.
The role operates on a Monday to Thursday working pattern, with nationwide travel and regular overnight stays, typically four nights per week, all expensed.
The role
You will work independently to deliver commercial scale solar PV installations, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. This role suits an installer who is confident running their own installs while supporting less experienced team members when required.
Key responsibilities
- Carrying out independent solar PV installations on commercial and industrial rooftops
- Conducting site readiness checks and verifying materials prior to installation
- Interpreting drawings, roof plans, string layouts and cable routing diagrams
- Installing panels, mounting systems and associated DC infrastructure
- Planning inverter locations and DC cable routes
- Completing quality checks and ensuring compliance with installation standards
- Supporting and mentoring Tier 1 installers on site
- Escalating technical or safety issues to the Team Leader promptly
Technical skills and experience
- Ideally 1 to 2 years' experience installing a range of solar PV systems
- Confident installing solar panels independently with minimal supervision
- Strong understanding of mounting systems including flat roof, trapezoidal steel and pitched roof systems
- Ability to square roofs, design panel layouts and interpret string designs
- Competent in MC4 crimping and DC cable termination
- Skilled in fault finding including dead strings, stringing issues and DC underperformance
- Confident using a multimeter for DC testing
- Good understanding of fire safety requirements for solar PV installations
Safety and compliance
- Able to understand and work to CPPs and RAMS
- Confident carrying out Dynamic Risk Assessments
- Understanding of isolation procedures
- Safe manual handling of solar modules and awkward loads
- Comfortable and confident working at height
Teamwork and communication
- Works closely with the Team Leader and follows direction on site
- Capable of taking responsibility for delegated tasks
- Communicates clearly with colleagues and escalates issues appropriately
Mandatory training and certifications
- IPAF
- CSCS and Working at Height
- Manual Handling
- Asbestos Awareness
- Harness Training
- First Aid where required
- Completion of all Elevate Tier 1 modules and competency sign off
Candidate requirements
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
- Flexibility to work nationwide with regular overnight stays
- Reliable, professional and motivated approach to work
