LOCATION: Glasgow Pacific Quay

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 75000 - 85000 depending on relevant skills knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of the Role

Our Bitesize team is currently looking for a Software Engineering Team Lead to help them develop the future of their beloved education product. We are in an exciting time where we are looking to evolve Bitesize so it adapts to our user needs, delivering curriculum‑aligned content needed by students, teachers and parents to support their learning journey.

This team lead will support the Glasgow team as they develop critical features and capabilities, guiding engineers to do their best work while working closely with other discipline leads and editorial stakeholders. The role is critical to delivering high‑quality sustainable solutions that meet user needs and involves guiding engineering approaches and best practices with other engineering leaders.

Your Skills and Experience
Essential Criteria
  • Track record of growing engineers with a focus on mentoring, coaching and development.
  • Experience building user‑facing, accessible front‑end products using web technologies such as React, TypeScript, Node.js.
  • Experience building APIs and back‑end services with AWS technologies like Lambda, API Gateway, SQS and CloudFormation.
  • Skilled at managing multiple product and technical priorities, making pragmatic, collaborative decisions.
  • Experience measuring, shaping and improving agile practices to ensure continuous delivery.
Desirable
  • Experience with large mono‑repo products backed by design systems.
  • Leading a team’s approach to operational stability and incident management.
  • Experience with experimentation and data‑driven decision making.
