IT Software Engineer 📍Gravesend, Kent (Hybrid) | 🕒 Full-time (35 hours, Mon–Fri)

We are seeking an experienced IT Software Engineer to join our software development team and play a pivotal role in developing and supporting critical business systems that underpin key operational processes.

The Role

As part of a small, collaborative team, you will work closely with stakeholders and end users to enhance and future‑prove our internal applications. A key system you’ll support is our in-house Port Management System, built on the low‑code Uniface platform. Prior experience with Uniface is not required just a willingness to learn and grow!

This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys taking systems from concept to delivery, improving existing platforms, and providing expert technical support in a live operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise business applications
• Translate business requirements into effective technical solutions
• Manage and support SQL Server databases and related infrastructure
• Collaborate with IT colleagues on broader development initiatives (e.g., web or Power Platform solutions)
• Analyse user requirements and recommend improvements
• Provide 3rd‑line technical support and resolve complex issues
• Ensure robust software development governance, including version control and documentation
• Work closely with the Corporate Systems Manager to drive system improvements
• Occasionally support operational needs outside standard working hours

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in developing and supporting enterprise business applications
• Strong SQL Server and database administration skills
• Solid understanding of client/server and web technologies
• Knowledge of server infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity best practices
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, both technical and non-technical
• Proactive, detail-oriented, and customer-focused
